Ready for a hardcore diet to get lean in a matter of days? This tuna fish diet is used by professional bodybuilders to prepare before the competition. It requires an iron willpower but guarantees 100% results.
3 Day Tuna Diet
Here is how it works:
- Normally this diet is followed for 3 days.
- Take in 6 equal tuna servings. Once each 2,5 – 3 hours.
- Drink as much water as possible. At least 3-4 liters. Water fills your stomach and? helps you not to feel hungry. There is no limit. Drink as much as you can.
- Take at least twice a day some vitamins. This is crucial since you won’t get much vitamins from tuna during this diet.
- You will need at least 1 to 1,5 grams of protein per pound of your weight (aroung 3 gram per kilogram).? Tuna’s marvelous as it contains 26 gram protein per 100 gram tuna. Here are two handy formulas to calculate your tuna serving size:For kilogram calculation: (bodyweight * 3 * 100) / (6 * 26) = bodyweight * 300? / 156 = 1 tuna serving (in gram)
For pound calculation: bodyweight * 100 / 156 or bodyweight * 150 / 156 = 1 tuna serving (in gram)
Don’t think it is an easy task, but the harder the task, the greater the payoff. For beginners I suggest to start the diet on friday evening after the work and keep it for two days. The reason is that you cannot control the regular food intake very well during a workday as you work normally 4 hours (or more) non stop and get only one break to eat. Moerover, two days tuna fish diet is not as hardcore as 3 or 4 days. I recommend this for all beginners. If you can keep this diet for two days without problems, wonderful, you can keep it for one or two days more.
Stay strong and be aware of forbidden foods. Your energy levels may fall in the first 1,5 days. You may feel very weak as never before. This is teh time of your spirit to stay as hard as iron and keep the diet! Your body will soon adapt and the strenght will come back.
Personally, I am doing this diet at the weekend every 2-3 weeks. It helps to burn the extra fat I may have gained during that period. It is a wonderful way to stay lean 365 days a year!

Hi ramya, thanks for the question. Well, I don’t think that bodybuilders are so different from anybody else. If you lead a healthy lifestyle, but have 1-2 “cheat days” a week, this 3 days diet once every 3 weeks may help to burn all fat you might have gained in this period of time.
Btw. it’s not healthy to stay on this diet for a long period of time.

This diet doesn’t supply enough vitamins and minerals for a healthy diet. Moreover I wouldn’t recommend staying too long on a diet that completely excludes carbs, especially when you are young.
If you really think this is the only diet that works for you, try incluiding veggies and fruits. They will provide you with some complex carbs and vitamins your body needs. Don’t do pure tuna diet for more than 5 days. It is proven that you can eat as much veggies and fruits as you can. They make you feel “full” and so you can stay better in control of what you eat.

Hi Susan, Tyrell. I can only tell you my own experience. I did this diet twice a month on a weekend (2-3 days in a row) to burn all the excess fat I might have gained in this period. I lost 1.5-2.5 pounds every weekend I did it. However, the weight you lose also depends on how much you exercise during this period as exercise makes you burn more fat.

Susan, in your case I would try this diet for 2 days every 2nd weekend. If you feel comfortable, do some more days but not for a long time as I said in the comments above. Moreover I would suggest you taking at least HALF of your daily calories from pure fruits and veggies EVERYDAY! Make salads (but without toppings
I would also implement endurance exercises at least 3-5 times a week for 30-40 min.

I tried a similar diet before reading this. I had oatmeal for breakfast, tuna in the mid-afternoon 2 hours before I worked out, and a bit of soup in the evening.
Doing that alone, while still dring lots of soft drinks, I still lost 14 pounds in 8 days.
Although I wouldn’t recommend eating 3 times a day and fill the rest of calorie needs with soft drinks, having smaller meal in the evening and complex carbs breakfast in the morning is also an excellent strategy.
Tuna is a good diet food and can be incorporated into your meal plan even without doing the pure tuna diet.
I have just started a diet, muesli for breakfast, tuna for lunch and chicken and veggies for dinner – it is day two – im going to vegas this weekend and i want to have fun at the pool… would you suggest the tuna diet to kick start my weight loss and then could i continue my previous diet. I have also been cycling 30min per day (i reallly need to lose weight!)
Rachel, of course you can! But don’t expect miracles. If you continue training for the next 4 days and do the tuna diet during this time you could lose 3-10 pounds. But it depends on your actual condition and many other factors.
Trying won’t hurt you. If there is something called the magic diet, it is definitely the tuna diet. If it doesn’t make you lose weight, no other (healthy) diet will.
One important thing: drink as much water during this time as you can! If you can do 3-4 liters a day, great! It is very important. It does wonders!
Extra tip:
(But NOT if you are planning to exercise during this period!!) It will make your skin look firmer as all water under the skin will be drained.
Then, if you really want to look slim and cut, stop drinking beverages/water last 14-16 hours before the pool.
It’s not healthy. Especially if it’s hot outside. So be VERY careful. You can start drinking again at the pool.

hmm, I am not sure about this, Latrice. The idea is to eat lean, but if you find tuna absolutely horrible try adding Mustard (“de Dijon” is the best), not mayo. And eat it with a slice of whole grain black bread. It tastes good.

I am so happy you wrote! Yeah, I know how hard it can be , especially when there’s so many trash food around. My friends and my parent do not eat healthy. And each time I visit them, well, I end up eating some junk.
And, you know, it’s hard to say my mom “no” if she has cooked something special just for me.
But it’s not that bad. As long as you keep yourself under control (more or less) and eat healthy when you’re back home, it’s all right.
For myself, I have found that
[jogging in the evening half an hour 4 days a week]
makes me lose weight even if I have 2-4 “special events” during that week.
The trick is not to eat anything 1,5 before and 1 hour after the jogging session. Then you eat something like an apple and a low-fat yoghurt and go to bed. The after-burn effect lasts practically the whole night.
Each time I re-start my jogging sessions, I usually feel and see the results after 4-5 days.
So, keep your eating habits healthy, don’t get depressed if you eat junk food sometimes during the week (The road to success is not a straight line) and do some endurance sports in the evening.

I just started the diet today. So far I’ve only eaten two cans of tuna and 5 slices of wheat bread. I wasn’t planning on eating the bread, but I was so hungry I couldnt help it…does the fact that I ate bread matter? I’ll try not to next time. hey dorothy – i did this diet and lost weight but what you have to do is avoid all carbs so that your body has to use your fat for fuel instead of carbs… so no bread, pasta, fruit etc… it will only work if you avoid carbs – when i found the tuna to be too much i ate grilled chicken instead so try that – this diet really sux but if you do it for just one day you will see results the next morning! so start again and stay away from carbs!

Dorothy, the reason why you shouldn’t do this diet for a long time non-stop is that you don’t get enough vitamins, minerals and fiber during this time. It is also not advisable to be long time on an non-carbs diet (the atkins diet).
While it is true that you can lose a lot of weight on a carb-free diet, it will have negative side-effects on your health. Do not lose weight on cost of your health! It’s like so many female friends I have who started smoking just to lose few pounds. But at the end you never win with this strategy!
Do this diet few days a week. 2-3 times a month if you want to. But don’t overdo it. Consistence and patience is the only thing you need to succeed. As Kafka said:

P.S. I’ve had problems with laxatives in the past, but have stopped taking them. I was taking them like it was water..even though i hated taking them it did help me lose weight. Sometimes I’m tempted to start taking them again..what if I was to eat some breadsticks or something and then continue this diet tommorrow? You don’t know how hungry I am!!

the most important thing during ANY kind of diet is never, _never_ to feel hungry, if you want to keep the weight off for a long time.
Your body is highly adaptive and if it notices that you don’t get enough food, it will save “a chunk” as a reserve next time you eat normally again. In other words’ you will regain weight.
So in your case, try to eat more so you keep your body constantly somewhere between being full and hungry. Balance is the key. You won’t overeat. Do more sports, if necessary. But NEVER let yourself feel hungry. I can’t stress that enough.
What I found for me quite effective when I’m hungry is eating fruits like green apples: You get extra shot of vitamins, fiber, feel more full and can eat as much of green apples as you wish because they don’t count
I am not a big fan of unnatural ways to lose weight as they always tend to have negative consequences on your health or do not give long-lasting results. So guess what I think about laxatives. =)
Laxatives cancel out all the benefits of fiber. Do it for a longer period of time and you can kiss your digestive system good-bye.

Susan, as I already said several times before, don’t do tuna-only diet for a long time. Add fruits and veggies and maybe whole wheat bread if you want to stay on this diet for more than 5 days.
There are different kinds of tuna on the market. For example, I LOVE tuna that I buy at Lidl(a small store where i live), but I also tried tuna from other company that tasted absolutely awful!
Try different offers and see what tastes better for you. Add spices. For example tuna with mustard tastes much better. But only if you like mustard. >) Find out what works best for you.
And no, you don’t smell like fish. I can prove that
… Well… unless you don’t brush your teeth once in a while
Clint, of course you can eat more! The trick is to find a balance where you don’t feel neither hungry or full. Your body will be more ready burning the fat if its not in “survival mode”.
Because if it notices that you don’t get enough food in. It will fight for every drop of fat. It will be harder to get rid of it and once you’re back to normal diet, you will regain that weight very fast. Balance is the key.

Hey guys the tuna diet does wonders, I followed it once for more than a month and used to lose a pound every other day if not everyday. I’m trying to go on that diet again but can’t seem to stick to it, though I need it badly now.

Anyway I am starting tommorow and I am going to be working out for an hour. I will also add skimmed yogurt to my diet because i heard it aids in maintaining lean muscle and speeds up fat loss especially abdominal area. (Where all the fat in my body is stored!)

If you are on the tuna diet long enough, does it affect the way you smell “down there”? Honestly. I know that your diet does affect the smell and taste, but is it fishy?
I did this diet and I drank alot of water…. i found that if you drink about 3litres of water a day “down there” does not smell anymore! no matter what you eat.. drink alot of water and it has no smell at all!

Hi guys, sorry for not posting soo long. I have been quite busy lately.
Anyway. Mike, 3lbs are +/- 1 kg. You also lose excess water in the first week by drinking 3+ liter/day. Afterwards, if you dont starve yourself (a common error which leads to failure) you will be losing plain fat.
Again, I advise you to add LOTS OF fruits and veggies if you are planning to go for more than 5 days. It will keep your hunger in check and give all the vitamins and minerals you need.

Hey, I was wondering can we add vegetables to the tuna or will it change the diet? I used to LOVE tuna but only after 2 days on the diet that love quickly went away. kim: with your weight you should take between 140 and 210 grams of tuna per day. That’s 25-35 grams per one serving each 2,5-3 hours.
As 1oz is more or less 28gram you can keep it simple and just take 1oz per serving.

Hi I actually did something similar to this using the “fat fast” this past March.It really works well and if done correctly as stated you can continue to lose weight.It was made also for people who are “metabolically resistant” to weight loss.And during the “Atkins” low carb diet faze,many people started to make minor adjustments.In actuality,if you use fish or any lean meats and cut out all carbs,you will lose weight.I lost 20 pounds in about 2 weeks of doing it.The only thing I would add is no sugar or starch at all.Only decaf coffee,tea,or soda.Also, if you add certain vitamins like L-canitine,CO-Q 10,chromium,etc. will boost it all along.I am starting again on Jan. 1st as a way to lose again.Be careful though,as with any diet if you do not alter your eating habits permanently, you willgain all you have lost plus more back.This is like a life long commitment to change your ways of eating.

However do not overdo it. 3 days every 2 weeks is usually enough.
In between just follow healthy eating habits (6 small meals, no food before sleep, complex carbs, lots of veggies and fruits, less of processed foods, dressings and sauces). No tricks, just common sense.

Hi. I’ve read all the posts and there is one big controversion I have. YOu avice to dring as much water as possible, 3-4 litres a day, just drink, drink and drink. Normally it is advised to drink around 1,5 – 2 liters of any liquid per day, which does not include some pure water only, but also soups, yogurts and so on. Why is drinking so important then in the tuna diet? I can imagine all your readers when very hungry will drink much water at once. Don’t You possibly think it may be harmful? Too much water at once surely streaches and enlarges the stomach, which implements being more and more hungry day after day. So my suggestion is, if we stick to the rule of 3-4 litres water a day, to drink not more than a regular glass of water at once and let the water be soaked from the stomach into the body before we drink another glass. We should point out that 3-4 litres of water make 12 – 16 glasses of water a day. However I’d suggest to drink them 16, rather than drinking much at once as far as I am concerned that diets not only make us lose pounds but also discrease our serving portion sizes thanks to letting our stomachs get shrank.

There’s a slight misunderstanding. We meant: Drink as much water during the day as you can. As much as you’re comfortable with. There’s no need to drink all that water at once!!
Additionally, I wouldn’t suggest drinking any liquids during or right after you ate something. Do it 10-15 minutes later. Several studies show that too many liquids while your stomach processes the food causes its malfunction (stomach acid is dissolved and isn’t as effective) and can lead to digestion problems later on.

I plan on trying this soon, the idea behind this seems to be the same as the Atkins diet during the induction phase (no carbs – high protein). Except of course for the Fat part of which Tuna has very little of (as long as it isn’t packed in oil).
One worry though – MERCURY! Should I be worried? I mean you hear now that you should limit your tuna intact because of mercury contamination. I’m wondering if high doses of it will screw me up…

with your weight it would be 2,5 oz per serving, 6 servings a day. In total 15oz tuna per day.
I was doing 20-30 min jogging everyday while on this diet. Worked fine for me.
Water: 6-8 cups. Just do one cup 5 min after each tuna serving and you’ll be fine.

Hey Zhayuri. I personally take tuna in oil (without the oli). It fills a bit more than tuna in water. It’s up to you.
I am also a tea drinker and I can confirm that it’s absolutely okay to take tea as much as you want Don’t put too mch sugar in, though. I drink mine without any sugar. So it doesn’t disturn tea flavour. Good luck!!

i have been reading on this diet. i can do this. i just wanted to know how many cans a day do i need to eat per day.weigh 173 and can you add lowfat mayo or just plain.
Sonny, I would increase the serving size. NEVER feel hungry. That’s the biggest mistake.
Sandra, 30 gram per serving. 6 servings per day. You’d be better off without the mayo. Otherwise try this: very little mayo and small cut onion pieces, all mixed together and served cold. Take it with a slice of black bread. I love it!

I know everyone says that starving yourself is no good but to be honest with you thats the only way i have really lost any weight, however as always i put it all back on plus some. I am looking for some advice with regards to this tuna and water diet. Do you eat the cans of tuna in sunflower oil or brine?? thats a good question eh. Plus i am a male aged 24 and i currently weigh 280lbs, very bad i know. I am going on holiday in 6 weeks and i want to lose a huge amount of weight. when i starve myself i normally lose about a 14lbs in my first week mainly of water. I plan to drink 4 litres of water per day and eat 2 tins of tuna per day and thats all. Please dont tell me this is bad cos i already know that. I will also eat some apples so that i dont feel hungry which would make me go into starvation mode. I would like to lose around 42lbs for my holiday. would this be possible mate. I know i will probaly end up putting it all back on again but as long as i lose some weight for going away i dont mind, ill eat sensibly when i coime back home. so how much weight could i lose in 6 weeks sparky. I know water is very good to help you lose weight. I am very heavy so i think it could be possible to lose 3 or 4 stones in 6 weeks, what do you reckon. Hi Chris, first of all, im eating tuna in olive oil. Without the oil, of course.
42lbs in 6 weeks is not impossible. Although I don’t recommend this diet for a long time, in your case, I’d do the following:
). They have a very minimum of calories, but will prevent your body from fighting back.
Apart of the tuna and LOTS of water, add veggies to your diet. Their caloric contribuion is almost non-existent, but the fiber will keep you full and won’t allow your body to go into starvation mode.
If your body notices starvation it will fight back to protect every drop of fat -the natural energy reserve- and cut on other things like your muscles -the natural energy spenders-
In other words: after 2 weeks you will notice a drastic decline in fat loss. Dropping any more pounds will look impossible. So don’t go into the starvation fight with your body as you can’t win in.
What you need to do is to trick it: Whenever you feel hungry, eat some apples or veggies (without dressing
Doesn’t matter if you have to eat 3-6-9 pounds of veggies a day to NOT to feel hungry. But it’s the best way to go.

Thanks sparky but one thing i dont understand is this. The whole point of eating the tuna is because it is fat free and has no carbohydrates which i believe is worse than fat. Fruit and veg is also fat free but they contain carbohydrates, in particular apples. would this not slow down the process at all. I love drinking diet coke etc is this ok to drink as there are no calories or carbohydrates and make me feel bloated. I want to lose weight rapidly but dont want to starve myself like that and throw it all away by eating something daft like an apple or something. I used to think that people told you that starvation mode was bad just becuase it was. I understand that your metabolism slows down. what about sugar free gum?? why do people on these diets prefer caffeine free diet coke or tea or coffee. what fruits or veg have the least carbohydrates. Today i have drank black tea and diet coke and 6 glasses of water. I have also had one tin of tuna in Brine. I also drink diet coke(0 calories), green tea, coffe and anything low-calorie that provides an extra shot of caffeine. Caffeine makes your heart beat faster, which uses more calories. Therefore you may lose 2-5% more fat during th same period of time (rough estimation).
Yes fruits and veggies have some carbs, COMPLEX carbs because of the fiber. And therefore the insulin levels in your body are altered very little. Ipso facto, this calories won’t be stored as fat.
Just be careful with fruits as many of them have lots of simple carbs (plain sugar) like yellow bananas. Green apples are OK. And so are all veggies.

This post explains it quite well. For quality loss you need to gradualy increase the intensity of your workout and gradually cut the calories. Let your body adjust over time so it doesn’t revolt. This is the only way known to me that works ALWAYS to keep the weight off for a lifetime.

Hi I am so glad to see this diet because, I always thought tuna alone could help me lose weight. Most people told me it was unhealthy to do. But 3 days is the trick…yay! But do I use tuna in water or oil. I’m thinking I need the fat from the oil or no? Also is there a such thing as to much exercise. Tyson makes a can of chicken chunks with pretty much the exact nutrition facts, but with more protein..If I do the diet with the chicken, will it be the same as the tuna diet…If so, could I eat both of them? I am 22 years old, and while my fiancee moved out of state I stayed with my mom until he got us our place. I didn’t like most of what she ate, so I pretty much LIVED off tuna sandwiches and water for 8 months. It’s very hard for me to lost weight, and without even knowing about this ‘tuna diet’ or exercising, or trying at ALL, I lost 25 lbs!!! Slowly people were telling me how skinny I was and I had no idea why I was losing weight. I know the diet says you aren’t supposed to eat bread because it counteracts what the tuna is doing… So why did I lose that much weight eating tuna sandwiches? Since I moved back in with my fiance I haven’t been eating those and have gained it ALL back!!! (I just sent him to the store to get more tuna!)
OK, here goes. I attempted this diet yesterday. However I feel super starved in the morning before the gym, so I have a cup of nonfat plain yogurt. Following the day with Tuna, while on the go Low carb Protien Bars (2) then Tuna and another Cup of Yogurt in eveing. Today I feel super tired. lighter over all. I plan to eat more tuna and only one bar a day. plus one cup only of yogurt. i do not like the idea of straving. This way I feel light but not straved throught the day. What do you think of this plan. Am I wasting my time??
Probably because you changed your diet and your caloires were in the very low range over all.It would og happened if you ate only ice cream too. After all eatting low cal will keep you losing weight,till your body says enough and starts to store fat to protect you. You accidentaly become a YoYo dieter,too low calories followed by eatting normal or more then normal equals fat gain and fast. Your body clearly went into strave mode. You can’t live off only tuna sandwichs. There is not enough vitamins etc…Try to eat balanced. You will get back on track. I lose 15 lbs in 1 month or so from cutting out sugar, excerising like mad. I gained it all back lus some and have found it difficult too lose. The body is not always our friend. More like a parent.
I am going to do this tuna diet for 15 days straight but I am also going to use a supplement shake as well that I bought from Arbonne called Figure 8 so I can make sure I get my vitamins! If I feel I have to have a snack I plan to eat raw fruit!

Guys, read the warnings above! When they say do not follow this diet for more than 5 days max they mean it! This is not a diet you can, or should, consider for long term use. This diet originally came from bodybuilders in the 50′s as a way to deplete their bodies of sodium to make their skin look tighter and more vascular. Yes, you will loose some fat but most of the weight you loose will be water. This can be very dangerous, especially in the summer when temps are high.
If you want to do this for 2 days before a photo shoot then fine, do it. But if you need to loose 15 pounds in 2 weeks to look good at the pool you’re out of luck. You should have started 7 weeks ago to meet your goal.
Once again. Listen to the advice of the publisher and only follow this diet for 2-3 days.
Hey I have been doing the Dave Draper tuna and water diet for 2 days now 1.5 grams of protein for every pound of body weight I have to eat 9 cans every day but it is working magnificently I have not weighed myself but am already seeing definition and such this works great I am doing this for 9 days it really helps to add metamusil though. =P

i have been eating carton eggs that have 30 calories per serving ( am eating 2-3 servings) with fat free cottage cheese 1 serving for breakfast Both have very little carbs . Then eating strictly tuna after for the rest of the meals. IS the breakfast alright?

From what I have read, you should get 190 to 300 grams divided in 6 servings per day of Tuna. And drink as much water as you want.
I plan on starting this diet tomorrow. However, I’d like to incorporate some baby spinach in mine during Lunch time.

hi sparky, i am a little confused but some of your previous comments with regards to the amounts of each serving. i’m just finishing off day 2 of this diet, but something tells me i could be eating too much tuna!
currently i’m eating 6 cans per day, (alot i know!) but according to forumal:
“You will need at least 1 to 1,5 grams of protein per pound of your weight (aroung 3 gram per kilogram).
For kilogram calculation: (bodyweight * 3 * 100) / (6 * 26) = bodyweight * 300? / 156 = 1 tuna serving (in gram)
found in the introductions i’m suppose to take in about this amount. please can you elaborate on this? my weight is roughly 90kg…
(after 2 days with exercise its around 88kg)

I went on the diet for whole 1 week and now I weigh 97. yay! im not lying. I wanted to lose lose weight and i did it. aLL I had for one week was two cans of tuna a day and drank about four 34oz. of water. thanks you for this diet. it works really well. Plus i had half a bottle worth of random vitimins. So im fab!!@!

HEY CARLOS….you are suppose to have 110 grams of TUNA 6 times a day….that means in oz, you are to have 3.5 oz 6 times a day…What I find easier is, to get down tat tuna…and you will get your water down at the same time…eat a fork full and take a drink to get it down right away…I have not had anything else…Just the tuna and the water…I did add mustard as well, and it was not all that bad…and then another day I added hot peppers, to give it a little taste…THE THING IS NO CARBS…check the carbs and 0 cals…I am not a perfectionist on this, but heck its workin for me…SO….LET me know how you are doing too….we all can support each other…

YOUR prob wondering..well how is that possible cause I weigh more….Well, if you do the pounds equasion you will come up with a differnt number then me, YOU ARE 110, and I Am 135….the grams and oz conversion chart that I got off og google, goes by hundreds…you are closer to that 100 more then I am and it says 3.5. I am eating 4….SO…yes…you are 3.5 oz per serving. 6 times a DAY….Im not eatin all that though…I have not been hungry…BUT AFTER 7 8pm…I find that I Am starting too….snack on some carrots…or red pepper….

Deidra, if you complete your diet with vitamins (i.e. a lot of fruits and veggies) I suppose, it would not hurt. However, I wouldn’t do this kind of a diet more than twice a month.

and so if i do tuna and water for 4 days and the next 3 days of the week add in fruit and veg will that be good enough? and then the 2nd week repeat it all again?!

started the diet today…. had 2 cans of tuna and black coffee with one spoon sweetner…….. but i didnt get chance to eat anything until the evning at 7pm… is that bad?
so i had my main meal… meaning anything which went past my mouth at 7pm 2 small cans of tuna..and i am stuffed for some reason..

you feel tired because you’re either stressed at work or have an unbalanced diet. That’s why it’s important to have 5-6 SMALL meals throughout the day. Keeps your energy levels constant without any insulin spikes.
I guess at least half an hour of exercise is a must. Even if you don’t feel like it. Jeeez, it’s only 3 days! Clinch your teeth together and JUST DO IT!
And don’t forget those fruits and veggies!

I did this diet for 6 months. Although i know its not good to but continuous stress on your body like that i went form 305 to 208 in only a matter of 5-6 months. i know have more muscle and look so lean people cant believe it. I always recommend this diet and im in the navy. I never talk about any other way. Yes it does take hard work and dertermination. I also did work out all the time but it was the tuna diet. I ate only tuna and green beans for that period of time. Always consuming as much water as possible.
Wow, Dinkle, this is a VERY good result. To combine exercise with this diet does the trick. Although green beans did probably provide you with some Vits and Minerals, I’d still suggest taking in some extra veggies and maybe fruits.

I like tuna fish, but I’ve only eaten it after adding miracle whip, mustard, a hard boiled egg, and relish. . .Would doing this be the same even if I exercised or would I have to just eat raw tuna out the can?

sorry for my absence, been busy for some time preparing a trip…
I want to stress again that this diet should only be done for a short period of time. It consists of pure tuna + water and as many vegetables as you want to still your hunger.
Of course, you could add additional stuff, but then it wouldn’t be “tuna and water” diet.
I don’t know if this would work. But, I guess, if you excercise enough and burn those extra calories the result would be about the same.
And don’t forget water!!

started the diet on monday it is now sunday here in aussie and i have done the diet, almost full force, i ate loads of tuna but also mixed in variety and had salmon, and for brekkie poached eggs, loads of water bout 4 litres a day and have started taking green tea tablets, i went from 61 kilos to 57, and thats also without exersize, i have been abit sick with flu, I am better now so this week i reckon another 7kilos, as I workout 2 hours in the morning and do 2 hours at night!!!!

I’m about 20 pounds overweight and and have been on a tuna straight out of the can and hard boiled egg diet for eight days. I’ve lost 11 pounds so far!!! I take two Centrum multi-vitamins a day…one when I wake up and one at night. I also drink crazy amounts of water everyday. This will test you but also motivate the hell out of you when you start seeing weight just fall off of you….I don’t exercise at all either, and I’m a 29 yr old male

I tried this diet a long time ago and it worked great! I am 5′ 4″ and began the diet at 139 lbs. By the end of the first day, I couldn’t do it anymore. I hate tuna. So, I began adding things to the tuna, like hot sauce or melted cheese, anything that would make it a little more tolerable. By the middle of the third day I couldn’t take another bite of tuna. The results? I lost 8 1/2 lbs. It was amazing! I haven’t been able to make myself do it again, because now I hate tuna even more than ever before. I still rave about the diet to everyone who needs to loose some weight quickly. I want to do it again, but just can’t bring myself to eat tuna again. A friend suggested that I try using canned chicken instead of tuna. So, I’ve compared the nutrition labels and they are very similar. The price is even the same. So, I will soon start a 3 day chicken and water diet. I don’t hate chicken, so this time it should be a lot easier.
Also, if you have the extra money, go to a spa and get a body wrap! They work miracles, taking inches off of your body! I am a hard-core fan of them! If you don’t have the extra money, you can order seaweed off of the internet and add it to your bath every 4th day to soak in. It’s not as effective as a body wrap at a spa, but you do loose inches in your bath and for 3 days afterwards. The inches are not visibly noticable, usually, but if you measure yourself from head-to-toe, you will see the inches come off and you will never quit using it!
I started the tuna & water diet this morning. So far so good, I am feeling a little bit weak, but I’ve dealt with worse. I am really needing to loose 10 pounds in the next 10-15 days. I am 6’1, and started working out and dieting again 2 1/2 weeks ago. My weight started at 231, and now it is at 218. But it’s been at 218 now for the past 5 days, so I am going to try the tuna and water diet for 5 days straight to see what happens. I will come back here and update everyone on my outcome. I am hoping to get down to 208.

I desperately need a diet but one that will allow me to drop fat and keep muscle. I havent been lifting weights as I should and my body is turning to fat. I’m 5’11 and my body fat percentage is 40.5% and I weigh about 177.0. I workout and will be motivated to workout more and lift weights which works better for my body type than only doing cardio. hey krissy, you dont need to measure any amount, i find if you eat it whenever your hungry then it still works, and gives you alot of energy too, drink alot of water, black coffee as much as you want.
you can eat tune from the tin in brine or sunflower oil depending on what you prefer, i normally get the tuna steaks from sainsburys..they are better… so i eat tin and steak whatever i feel like, as long as its just tuna and water and black coffee you will lose alot of weight and feel good!
ur body fat needs to get down to atleast 26 percentage. do about an hour of cardio a day and some weights….

I was wondering how much tuna i should consume a day, and also if I made strictly veggie soups if that would change up the diet to where it is not effective. Hey John, nothing to be ashamed of! As I told before, this diet has colossal results, but shouldn’t be done for more than a few days in it’s “strict” version. Depending on how much weight you need to get rid of, you will need to keep up with good eating and workout habits. Adding veggies and other healthy food is a must for a prolonged diet.
Walking 1h/day is good. Try to incrementing time and pace graadually. You’ll see yourself jogging the same distance in no-time.
Some friend of mine told me once that perisistance is the only unifying quality of all successful people (be it in personal life, business or health). If you have the iron will to keep up a strict workout/diet plan for a few months, you will look like a model before summer. Thumbs up and good luck!

Due to safety concerns about the amount of mercury contained in tuna cans. Does eating the same amount (grams) of fish (example: tilapia) wil produce the same weight loss?
I started this diet the first week of Jan 2009 and so far I have lost 10 pounds, I eat porridge for bfast, one tuna can with sauce and rice cracker for lunch and at night a quick snack or soup, also when i have cravings I have a candy bar or small portion of veggies or fruit. It really works and everyone noticed how slim I;ve got!

Hey, I am going to try eating tuna and eggs for 4 days. I tried eating 1 egg and a half can of tuna once for lunch&dinner and when I weighed in the following morning I lost 2 pounds. Great! I’ll update you guys this saturday.

10a Black Coffee
Every 2 or 3 hours: 2 cans of Tuna
As Needed: Carrots and apples and water
Excersise: Walk about 45 or so minutes a day (about 3 miles for me)

Shelby, it depends on many other factors: your activity level, stress/sleep patterns, diet, etc. One week is lots of time, i’d say you can lose some 3-4lbs. More is possible, but unhealthy.

i also tryed the tuna fish diet for 3mths and lost a total of 32lbs. i eat a lite yogurt for breakfast when hungry and a tuna fish sandwich and yougur for lunch and fruit if i got hungry later on. now im starting back the diet after taking a month of i havent gained any weight back suprisingly. wish me luck on these last 38lbs… my goal is 125lb my august!!!!

I have a very odd work schudule. I have two jobs and at one I work for 6 hours and no breaks. Should I just start after that day and work around that job, or just chug water like there’s no tomorrow while there? Advice please.

I’ve just completed this diet plan and it works. I have lost 6.2 pounds in just 3 days by just eating tuna and drinkings lots of water. The hardest part of the diet is the first day and half then its get much better.
I must say I hardly ever felt hungry during the 3 days, this was probably because I was drinking lots of water which helped in making me feel full. If your thinking about trying this diet to lose weight, do it for three day and you will lose weight that is a guarantee.
has anyone done the diet for a long period of time becuase i think im going on it to lose 80 pounds or so i know its not healthy but neither is my weight! i also think watermellon would be a good one because its mostly water! well let me know if anyone has done it for a while

Water helps Mish. Just keep yourself in balance. The biggest enemy is if you feel too hungry: cortisol is flushed into your blood and the risk of getting back to junk food gets higher.

I think, there were earlier user comments that have done this diet for several months. Although I do not advise it, you could try mixing it with lots of veggies so you have supply of the most important minerals and vitamins.
I wouldn’t chose watermelon because (1) it’s a carbs BOMB in water (2) it flushes all the water out of your body, which is not so good in this diet.

Ok!I have a question that would be on the long term like in cycle format. I have begun a new weight training program and really just want to shed the excess belly fat. I will be lifting free weights, biking and just regular cardio. I also will be taking a protein shake that will have high grams protein in conjuction with creatine and a multi-vitamin. Would the overload of protein just get flushed out. Can this diet be applied and see the same results or maybe even better? Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone, my name is John and I’m currently deployed in Iraq and been here for 3months, anyhow that’s neither here or there. So I’ve been trying “A tuna diet” for 3weeks, not anything specific to this diet and it has been working out pretty well. When I started the diet I weighed 185lbs and now I weigh 172Lbs. (could be a combination of the diet + the constant exposure to 115~Temp + working out) Not everyone has this capability to do what I have set in stone for my diet but it might be something you could consider and tweaking to your life style… I’ve pretty much been trying to get this down to a science… so here goes..
My Daily: BMR = 2752(Basal Metabolic Rate calculated by doing my weight times 16 is just a rough estimate on your daily allowance with your body just burning calories throughout the day), Calorie intake = 1600 plus or minus 100~ calories, protein intake 188g~, fiber intake 4g~, and a 1 a day multi-vitamin. (breakfast consists of 1 Protein shake, 2boiled eggs, 2 slice of sausage, a cup of whole grain Oatmeal or Coco Krispies Cereal with milk *I have to have my cheating happen somewhere lol* water and a banana) 1hr exercise morning, (Lunch consists of One and a half can of Tuna, protein shake, and water) 1hr exercise afternoon, (Dinner consists of One and a half can of tuna with a fresh green filled salad *olive oil and vinegar*, some fruit, and water) 1hr work out evening.
One Can of Tuna consists of 100-120Calories
One Protein Shake consists of 270 Calories
2 Boiled Eggs 140~Calories
Coco Krispies Cereal with Milk 160~ Calories
Misc fruits – fills in the gaps lol

i lost 114 lbs in about 7 months by eating nothing but tuna straight out of the can. i wont lie it is very disgusting after a while. i used lighte tuna and it has 100 cals per can. all i ate was5 cans of tuna a day and drank diet soda. 114 pounds in 7 months. its hard to acheive that with surgery. just exercise as much as you can and you will have results quickly i promise. for my whole story email me at drewsnider04@verizon .net

hi rich dont do only tuna . i lost 45 pounds using a simple to follow diet. i boiled 1 doz eggs use two whole w/ yolk 10 whites only .. make 1 can of tuna fish ..and two.. 4oz chicken breasts .. next buy low cal high fiber and protein whole wheat wraps make 1 wrap using each of the proteins i mentioned cut them into halfs which will leave you with 6 half wraps …each half equals 25 to 30 grams protein and 4.5 grams fiber total 140 calories each half average… 1 bag of steamed mixed vegtables 4 servings 140 calories eat these as needed plenty of water and try for 3or 4 cups green tea or use green tea extract tablets make a whey protien shake w/skim or water 200 calories totals 1260 calories 175 gms protein and 33 gms fiber results i went from 6 ft 245 to…. 216 in 4 weeks i did about an hour a day treadmill thats it dude good luck 2 others i know did this lost avg 5 -6 pounds per week
one other thing forgot to mention i was using a grapefruit juice mixed in w/ my water not much just about 2 maybe 3 oz per glass 10 week total so far STARTING WEIGHT 245 now 197

Hi, well i already sin this whole week so I will start Monday again but the first time i did it was hard but determine, heres a sample of what i eat in the morning i would eat a cinamon raisin bagel with cream cheese and juice and everyother 2 hours i would eat a boiled egg the white part only mid day tuna with alot of lettuce, onion, tomato and then back too boiled egg and at night tuna sanwhich on whole wheat or just tuna and alot alot of water and i walked alot because i would take my son to the park. It can be done you just need to keep up with it and people tell u dont weigth urself, well i did it and it kept me going because i saw the weight loss.

Hey everyone! The tuna fissh diet is definately a good one to se weight. The tuna will aslo tighten the skin as u lose weight. I dont recommend putting mustard on it or mayo because both have a lot of calories and little benefit. Instead with every serving to add flavor you should use light sour cream and just 1 tablespoon at most which would be 20 cals which is basically milk. Also try adding onion and green pepper along with salt and pepper. If u want to get the most out of the diet it should be combined with a breakfast menu of straight oatmeal. This will provide the fiber your body needs and will help with the digestion as well as absorption of nutrients. It is an even better idea to attempt the master cleanser lemonade diet before starting your diet. Also it recommended that you consume no more than 6 oz of tuna or shell fish per week. Albacore tuna is high in mythelmercury, light and chuck white tuna are low in mythelmercury content.

i started a similar diet around 6 weeks ago. glass of grapefruit juice when i wake up. go to gym. tuna for breakfast. tuna for lunch. tuna and salad or veggies for dinner. if i get hungry inbetween i have cucumber or tomatoe slices with balsamic as snacks. i have around 3 litres of water a day and grean tea. must say i hated the stuff but you get use to it. in 6 weeks i have lost 15 kgs whoo hoo

I love this site. I did this diet a long time ago and it works – 100%. But I hate tuna and that’s why I regained the weight – I love carbs. So this time I want to start again but substitute the tuna for chicken which I love too. Will substituting chicken for tuna work???? It’s still all protein but a little higher in cals and fat.
I’m going to try this diet, I plan to mix my tuna with mustard, relish & celery… lets see how things go! I’m 5’4″ and 190lbs and want to get down to 135/140lbs. I’ll also be doing Zumba and taking One a Day Weight Smart Advance + drinking lots of lemon water! Wish me luck!
Hello everybody i read everyones comments and it seems like it really works i actually have a friend that went on a tuna and grapefruit diet and she lost 20 pound fast but Grapefruit..Yuck!!lol anyway i am 24 have two kids i am 5’5 and weigh 180 my goal is to get to 140 not exactly the weight i was before kids lol but i will be halppy:)anyway my question is how much tuna and water do i consume every day? and is it Healthy? if someone can help please..thank you

Tuna is a great way to loose weight quick however, tuna has a good deal of mercury in it. I wouldn’t suggest you trying this any more than 3 times a year because mercury takes up to 6 months to leave the system.
I used to weigh 210 in 7th grade and through the summer I went on this diet and worked out all day I lost 90 pounds in those 2.5 months so my advice is do it
Wow, I’m 6’4 and started being health conscious through an ex-fitness trainer that worked at my job. In 1 month i went from 308 to 285 just from eating more vegetables and lean meats (chicken and fish) I was so pleased with the results that I adopted the TUNA DIET from a bodybuilding website. Since then I have been doing cardio and lifting weights in my room and my body is looking better than it ever has! (such a confidence boost) ** I use tuna in water and I add diced tomatoes, garlic and lettuce for healthy crunch.
Wow I want to give this diet a try over the summer because I’m 30 pounds over weight and I would like to look good for the upcoming school year. I am doing this for my health as well because being an overweight teenager isn’t very good. I know I will get extremely hungry on this so I would like to know if I can snack on watermelon during the day if I feel hungry. Is this okay?

i have read all the comments and i have done this diet like a month ago before i moved, i am going on vacation in march of 2012, i have had two kids i gained 50 lbs with my first and 12 with my second, i was all baby with him. i am 5ft 3 in and weigh 212, i would love to get down to 140. if i stick with this diet can i get down to 140 before march of 2012? please someone help me i want to look good in a bikini on vacation plus be more healthier for my kids. thanks so much
I think you can do it Dana! I weigh 159 and am 5’1″. I want to get down to 131 if not lower, by the begining of January 2011. We can do this and kick it in it’s butt! I found the key to be drinking LOTS and LOTS of water! LOTS!
so im qoinq to start this diet tommarrow but modify it with oatmeal in the am and tuna for lunch and dinner till i can get to the market and get more tuna , i weigh 314 and will be doing this for two months wish me luck : )
I’m gonna start doing this. I like tuna so it won’t be bad. I skip breakfast and lunch everyday and I only eat when I get home. I lost alot of weight by doing that, but I have now put weight back on as I would eat dinner then snack later on in the evening thinking it would be fine because I skipped breakfast/lunch but I was wrong. So I plan on doing this for about 6 weeks, if I can’t I’ll try to do it for atleast 3.
Hi, hows everyone doing? i’m 22yrs, 6’0ft. over 300pounds, my body is weird beecause i have muscles mixed wit alot of fat. i’m very unhealthy for my age. i’m willing to try this diet, i know its going to be hard but, can i do this diet n exercise n weight train with it? instead of eatin just tuna i want to know if i can eat it with greens? like broccoli, lettuce, etc. Plz help i tryin to get as much info so i can have an accurate diet plan. I just started a Tuna diet. I eat Strawberry Awake cereal with 0% milk in the morning. Just one bowl. It’s a total of 150 calories. Then I eat a Tuna fish sandwich for Lunch. Half a can of Tuna mixed with a teaspoon of mayo and sprinkled with garlic powder on toasted white Bread. Then for Dinner I have 2 of those tuna fish sandwiches. I use the whole can. I drink water throughout the day and also hot tea with some sugar added. Usually 3 packets. I drink about 2 cups of tea a day. It’s a 12 oz cup. Is this healthy? Should I add to it? I have been doing this for one week now
I started this morning. So far so good. I am hungry quit a bit though. I guess it’s because I don’t find myself begging to get to the table! LOL But I have to ask..I am having severe diarrhea. Is this typical?

Right, after spending like an hour reading everyone’s comments, I have decided to try this diet out myself. I am currently on a weightloss journey, but seems to be going very slow. I have a cousins wedding coming up in 3 weeks and would love to get into this lovely red dress I have. I am 147lbs and my ideal weight is about 130lbs. Any weight loss is welcome..lol…

OMG….I lost 2lbs!! I don’t wether to laugh or cry!! 3 days of non stop tuna and I lose only 2lbs!!!!

I’ve done this diet before and lost a good chunk. Trying to get back in the groove is hard. I need to lose 30 lbs and I’ll be almost satisfied. My boyfriend told me today that I have discipline, but I’m having a hard time seeing it when it comes to this. But I figure the tuna diet is better than starving myself(which I have done in the past). I’d hate to have to do that again. But I’m gonna do whatever it takes to get at least these 30 lbs off!

Hi everyone, I literally sat here for half an hour reading everyone’s comments and have gotten a bit of insight into this diet. I weigh 55kg, and 158cm, sounds small but I have gained a few kilos since meeting my boyfriend who has bad eating habits
and it’s almost summer here in Australia and I want to look slim in shorts! A couple of hours ago I had a tin of tuna and have almost drunk a litre of water. I’ll report back in 3 days to let you know how it went
So here I am reporting back.. In 3 days I have lost 1.4kgs, it’s okay but I’m sure I would have lost more if it weren’t for the fact that on Monday I had a couple of bite sized chocolate and ice cream, and coke! *cries* overall I’m happy with the result, and will continue

Hi, I did this diet when i was living in Venezuela. I have to say it worked, I dropped 2 dress sizes, in 7 days. I only did this diet for 7 days. I am now back in England, and since had a baby, i am not sure if it is just a different climate or the fact my body is out of whack, from having my beautiful baby? But I can’t shift the fat, I keep fit, and work out for 1.5 hours per day. I think it is the cold weather here, my body is fighting to hold on the the fat to keep me warm. lol. Well any way, I am going back on the tuna diet today, for 3 days, see how that goes, with the 1.5 hours of exersice too. I will report back with the results. x
